Summary
Conducts variety of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical tests on electronic systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure unit functions according to specifications or to determine cause for unit failure to component level. Write, edit and modify test procedures for production test and provide product support by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Utilize various equipment to perform acceptance tests on new product designs to assure product meets design goals
  • Write and modify test procedures for production testing and support
  • Debug hardware to component level
  • Use logic analysis to measure timing and perform timing analysis for project engineers
  • Develop MTBF data for newly released products
  • Assist project engineers in schematics and mechanical designs
  • Read and modify logic equations
  • Provide product support to customers and vendors via verbal or digital communication and personal interaction
  • Read test schedule, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine testing procedure and equipment to be used.  Configures boards per customer requirements
  • Test functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions such as temperature change and vibration using diagnostic tests
  • Connects unit to be tested to test equipment using various backplanes
  • Read dials or digital displays that indicate electronic characteristics such as voltage, frequency, resistance, inductance, and capacitance
  • Analyze test results on defective units to determine cause of failure
  • Replace defective wiring and components or records defects and returns unit to RMA/rework department
  • Confer with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and others regarding testing procedures and results and to resolve problems
  • Devise test equipment setup to evaluate performance and operation of nonstandard or customer returned units
  • Conduct various performance test of the company's product in accordance with test criteria established by policies and procedures and/or written test plans and maintains accurate records of test results and reports result
  • Conduct tests of new components, assemblies and systems based on test criteria as established by policies and procedures and/or written test plans; maintains accurate records of test results and reports result
  • Determine root cause of unit failure to the component or process level
  • Read, understand, and utilize product manuals, test and assembly procedures, performance specifications, cable diagrams, schematics, BOMs, etc.
  • Keep a detailed record of actions and results taken to repair or debug a unit
  • Use oscilloscopes, multi-meters and other test instruments for product repair
  • Analyze test results on defective units to determine cause of failure
  • Edit and improves existing test and assembly documentation
  • Utilize the company’s database to update all relevant data
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to train diagnostic technicians on test procedures and product testing

  • Must demonstrate initiative and ownership of assignments/projects
  • Must report to work at scheduled time and maintain satisfactory attendance with limited unscheduled absences

  • Requires excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing with executives, colleagues and individuals, internal or external
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, able to effectively interact with all levels of employees and management

  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
  • Must possess the ability and desire to encourage and facilitate a positive and productive work environment for all employees
  • Limited travel required
 
Education and Experience
  • AA degree in electronics/engineering required, or equivalent years of experience
  • Must have 2 years of experience in testing and troubleshooting computer boards to a component level
  • 2-4 years of experience in testing and understanding of Microprocessors and Digital circuitry with a strong knowledge of hardware and software with microprocessor.
  • Experienced with digital circuitry and computer subsystem hardware functionality such as CPU, SouthBridge, NorthBridge, memory, all I/O, video etc.
  • Familiar with computer software functionality such as BIOS, EEPROM, programmable devices, etc.  Basic familiarity with operating systems (Windows, DOS)
Language Skills
Ability to effectively write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, customers and employees in writing and verbally.
 
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
 
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus and utilize a computer monitor under florescent lighting and/or daylight where applicable.
