Summary

A self-motivated senior engineer that is a direct contributor with demonstrated success in developing power electronics and related sub-systems from conceptual design through field sustaining. Responsibilities encompass requirements definition, conceptual design, circuit analysis and design, directing printed circuit board designs, prototype verification, supporting manufacturing introduction and product sustaining engineering. Must be able to work in a multidisciplinary team environment including Systems, Software, Mechanical and Manufacturing engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for design, development and release to production of power electronics for embedded computing systems:  Architecture definition, circuit design, component selection, printed circuit board design, test and optimization, and verification, and product level qualification and certification.
  • Coordinate cross functional engineering teams, including systems, mechanical, printed circuit board design and firmware disciplines, to implement power electronics for embedded computing systems.
  • Responsible for schematic generation for circuit board designs for power electronics developments.
  • Responsible for printed circuit board designs for power electronics developments:  Provide design requirements and direct design resources, perform reviews. 
  • Responsible for firmware elements of power electronics designs, and management of related software development.
  • Responsible for verification of compliance to EMI, ESD, and safety requirements.
  • Responsible for technical project management for power electronics development:  Design process, design reviews, planning and schedule, documentation, reporting to supervision, management and customers.
  • Coordinate with external organizations for custom component sourcing, qualification testing and transition from engineering to manufacturing.
  • Maintain relationships with component vendors.
  • Responsible for sustaining engineering support for power electronics:  Work closely with quality assurance in investigating technical issues and implementing remediations and corrective actions.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Limited travel required
  • Must be able to work the standard 8AM-5PM, Monday – Friday schedule and overtime as required

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering preferred or minimum BSEE with 5+ years of design experience
  • More than two years’ experience in AC-DC power electronics development, with direct experience in analog and mixed-signal electronics design, including schematic capture.
  • Strong understanding of DC-DC/AC-DC architectures, topologies, switched-mode power supplies including control loops and stability, load sharing implementations, and related control and power components.
  • Expertise with circuit simulation and other analysis tools for analog and mixed-signal electronics, including direct experience with industry standard simulation tools.
  • Work experience that includes specification, definition, test and verification of magnetic components.
  • Experience managing the printed circuit board design process, in particular for power electronics and circuits with high voltages.  Strong understanding of techniques for managing coupled noise.  Working knowledge of techniques for meeting safety requirements.
  • Experience with thermal management of electronics in forced convection and conduction cooled environments.
  • Experience with microcontrollers and DSP devices in power electronics applications, including working knowledge of software development methodology and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment associated with analog, mixed-signal, DC-DC and AC-DC electronics.
  • Hands-on experience with EMI and ESD testing and remediation of EMI and ESD issues.
  • Project management experience, including responsibility for small engineering teams and development schedules.
