Description

The Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer assists in planning and coordinating manufacturing processes for GMS products, and supports operations to assure a quality product is produced utilizing Lean Manufacturing Methodologies. Works directly with multiple departments representing the manufacturing team, collaborating with Quality Assurance, R&D and Procurement. Works to improving existing and develops new product variant of the original designs and processes to enhance the customer experience, decrease operational costs, or improve quality. Leads manufacturing mechanical engineering projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: including the following and other duties as assigned.

•     Support the transfer of new designs from R&D to production and service

  • Must be able to work with original Design using 3-D solid modeling software (Solid Works & EPDM) to develop new product variant
  • Responsibilities will include mechanical design of machined metal parts, sheet metal components, and molded plastic parts for new product variant
  • Provide improvement and sustaining engineering support for existing production lines.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and improving manufacturing and inspection processes and procedures.
  • Provide process development engineering support for new product development projects.
  • Assist with resolving issues with suppliers.
  • Assist with performing process failure mode effects analyses FMEA’s.
  • Update BOM’s and ECO’s
  • Write SOPs, validation protocols and other technical documents
  •  Provide technical support and troubleshooting for manufacturing floor
  •  Provide training to R&D and manufacturing on new procedures and equipment
  •  Assist in oversight of critical production steps as necessary
  • Communicate data to clients and vendors during meetings and calls
  • Identify areas for process improvement to improve productivity and product quality
  • Work closely, and coordinate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on parts, assemblies and outsourced manufacturing.
  • Write, or work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing to produce concise manufacturing and technical documentation to convey assembly and test requirements and processes, instructions, illustrations and procedures.
  • Train internal manufacturing personnel, suppliers, and contract manufacturers.
  • Work closely, and coordinate with Quality on Quality processes and issues.
  • Working with engineering to design for manufacturing/assembly and design reviews
  • Reviewing models and drawings and approving for manufacturing
  • Working with supply chain to source materials
  • Position also requires support for mechanical related product validation testing, including thermal, shock, vibration, regulatory compliance on MIL Standards and safety
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Understanding of manufacturing KPI’s and LEAN principles
  • Proficiency in MS office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Solid works
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven, multi-tasking, environment with ability to quickly adapt to changing situations and tasks
  • Must be detail oriented and balance multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Require minimal supervision to successfully complete tasks and assignments

  • Must report to work at scheduled time and maintain satisfactory attendance with limited unscheduled absences
  • Must be able to work onsite standard 8AM-5PM, Monday – Friday schedule and additional hours as needed
  • Limited travel as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field or related discipline from an accredited university, preferred.
  • 5-6 years of experience in a manufacturing work environment related to electronics products and systems, and a proven track record on products development from concept through release to production
  • Experience with completing Oracle Manufacturing transactions or similar system
  • Proficiency with Solid Works: Minimum of 5 year of professional experience required
  • Proficiency with EPDM (Enterprise Product Data Management); Minimum of 3-4 year of professional experience required
  • Experienced in the design, development and qualification of manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Solid Works or other solid modeling software.
  • Experience with Solid Works Enterprise Product Data Management (EPDM) or other data management software.
